2018 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Airstream RV in Santa Barbara -- This one was blowing cold air at startup, but after a while the vents got warm. We did some testing and found that the compressor had failed.
We initially recovered the refrigerant and found it was 35% over filled. We also only recovered about 1 ounce of lubricating oil. The system calls for several ounces more than that. So we added oil, and went to recharge the system, it only took a few ounces then stopped abruptly, and pressures on the gauges spiked. We had a restriction somewhere,
One obvious sign is when we removed a hose from the compressor, we wiped the inside with a rag, and found the 'black death' on the rag
Well we got the system and hoses flushed out, in the red bucket you can see some of the debris that was removed, those are pieces of the compressor.
New condenser, dryer, thermal expansion valve, and compressor installed, the correct weight charge of refrigerant and oil, and it is now blowing 39 degrees at the center vents.
